A man has been taken to a local hospital after being trapped in the cab of a jackknifed lorry at the St Nicholas-at-Wade roundabout this morning.

Three fire engines were at the scene in Canterbury Road with Kent Police officers, Kent Air Ambulance and South East Coast Ambulance Service.

The A28 Canterbury Road is blocked westbound after a fuel spillage between Seamark Road, the A299 Thanet Way and Potten Street Road.

Police spokesman Scarlet Jones said: "We received a report of a collision involving a lorry at 9.29am.

"A man has been taken to a local hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening."

A Kent Fire and Rescue spokesman said: "Firefighters used heavy duty hydraulic rescue equipment to release a man who was trapped in the cab of the vehicle.

"He was assessed by HEMS doctors on the scene. Fire crews helped to make the scene safe, attending to a spillage of diesel and stemming the flow of fuel from the lorry.

"Firefighters also stabilised the cargo on the lorry, due to damage to the side of the trailer."
