Kind-hearted campaigners have launched a crowdfunding page to replace money robbed from a 93-year-old man.
The appeal has doubled its £200 target in just 24 hours, raising more than £400 so far.
It was started after the elderly man was attacked and had his wallet stolen in public toilets near Morrisons in College Walk, Margate at 11.20am yesterday.
Ali Draper, who set up the campaign with husband Stef, said: “It is disgusting. My friend saw the aftermath and I cannot imagine what it must be like.
“My worry is that it takes away someone’s independence and that is horrible.
“Hopefully by doing something like this we will be able to help the person who was attacked and the community will be able to come together to help.”
Speaking about what might have motivated someone to carry out the attack Ali added: “They must be so desperate.

“My first reaction though is one of anger.”
An outpouring of well wishers have offered kind words to the family with one saying it was “absolutely disgraceful that an elderly gentleman is attacked in broad daylight”.
Another said: “Wishing the elderly gentleman a quick and speedy recovery.
“I’m so shocked that someone could do such a callous crime. It actually makes me want to cry.”
The pensioner was taken to the QEQM Hospital where he was treated for cuts to his hand.
Police are still trying to trace the suspect who they say was in his mid 20s, had dark hair and was wearing a black jumper and light coloured jeans.
