A new late-night venue is set to open despite fears from neighbours that it will bring more vomiting, urinating and defecating in the high street.

An internet-cafe style gaming hub got the go ahead from Thanet District Council to open until 1.30am at weekends.

Following the approval, families and friends will soon be able to enjoy a glass of wine over a game of scrabble in Margate at The Digi Diner.

But the owner of neighbouring Margate House believes the hub will increase late night anti-social behaviour.

Lana Vanzetta told the council today (October 23) how she often cleans up urine and faeces from her doorstep and the alleyway next to KFC.

She said: "There is a real problem with defecating, urinating and vomiting down Bilton Square, which is directly onto my entrance.

"I came up one morning, two weeks ago, and someone had urinated at the door and the next evening someone had thrown up there.

"It tends to be a place where people congregate at night time and there can be a lot of fights and anti-social behaviour.

"I don't understand why somebody needs a 1.30am license - to me that just feels like it's going to bring an element that will not be conducive to the businesses.

"I think a 12am license is more than sufficient."

She added that she is not against new businesses coming to the high street, as she rents her building out to a clothing store and yoga studio.

To address her concerns, the owner of the new venture, Robert Osman, agreed to implement a 11pm curfew for anyone up to 16 years old with a strict 'Challenge 25' policy for selling alcohol.

Last entry to play games would be 12.30am on Fridays and Saturdays.

Staff at the diner will be required to patrol the front of the building for litter three times a day and CCTV cameras will be installed.

Bins for cigarette butts would be at the front of the building and no drinks will be allowed outside.

A phone number will be provided for neighbours to contact the line manager or owner if there are any disturbances.

He added the ceiling is sound proofed and there is a noise limiter installed so the power will go out if it gets too loud.

Mr Osman, from Broadstairs, said: "The Digi Diner is three industries coming into one; gaming with a bar and kitchen.

"We want to create an experience like an internet cafe but also like the Hard Rock Cafe or TGI Fridays, which do have bars but they are not the main focus.

"This is a different clientele. We are not driving for a night club.

"As far as I'm concerned we are not trying to promote any anti-social behaviour or public nuisance.

"We are trying to bring back the family night out and make it affordable for families in Thanet.

"So I'm at a loss why Margate doesn't want me here."

The venue will have a retro gaming area with old school games like Pacman and Minesweeper as well as an area where players can compete with others around the world.

In booths people can play console games from Minecraft to Mario Kart and Fifa while sharing a food platter.

A large selection of board games will also be available for families and friends to bond over.

He explained how his team are "looking to invite everyone in" from age six to over 70 as "everyone enjoys playing games".

"We are looking to invite everyone in and have a relaxed atmosphere that's very friendly.

"We are trying to create a community base-feel," he said.

There are also plans to encourage children to learn code and both play and design games consoles.

Independent developers would also get a chance to showcase their games at the diner.

It was due to open this week (October 20) but now Mr Osman hopes to open next month. A date is yet to be announced.
