A gang who left a man seriously injured after a brutal town centre attack have been jailed for a total of more than 30 years.
Eight thugs have now been convicted over the shocking assault in Harbour Street, Ramsgate.
Ashley Grainger was confronted by the group after he left a venue near the seafront at about 3am on Sunday, May 12, last year.
It was said that a friend of the 25-year-old had previously been in a dispute with one member of the group, who shouted abuse at him as he made his way into the town centre.
The group then chased Mr Grainger through the streets, repeatedly punching and kicking him as he tried to defend himself.
The victim was cornered in the doorway of a bakery in Harbour Street, where he was punched, kicked and stamped on, before being stabbed in the neck.
CCTV later showed that Jacob Cromwell had pulled a knife from his trousers and inflicted the stab injuries.
The resulting wounds narrowly missed an artery in the Mr Grainger's neck and he was in hospital for 11 days.
Cromwell was found guilty of attempted murder and jailed for 11 years at Canterbury Crown Court on Monday, May 11.
In separate hearings at Canterbury Crown Court, a judge has since sentenced the remaining seven members of the group:
• Joshua Roberts, 20, of Argyll Drive, Ramsgate, was jailed for five years after he was convicted of violent disorder, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and attempted wounding with intent.
• Isaac Roberts, 20, of South Eastern Road, Ramsgate, was jailed for three years after he was convicted of violent disorder and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
• Kieran Day, 20, of Dane Crescent, Ramsgate, was jailed for three-and-a-half years after he was convicted of attempted wounding with intent and violent disorder.
• Ashley Dorsett, 19, of Argyll Drive, Ramsgate, was jailed for two-and-a-half years after he admitted violent disorder and attempted wounding with intent.
• Casey Carter, 19, of Dundonald Road, Ramsgate, was jailed for 18 months after he admitted violent disorder.
• Jaden Cashin, 19, of Beatrice Road, Margate, was jailed for four years after he admitted violent disorder and attempted wounding with intent. His sentence also included prison terms for assault, affray and assault of an emergency worker in relation to an incident in Broadstairs on December 14, 2019.
• A 17-year-old boy from Margate, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, admitted wounding with intent and violent disorder and was given a youth rehabilitation order.
Chief Insp Ed Ruffle, Thanet District Commander, said: "This was a cowardly assault by a group on a man who posed no threat to them.
"He was leaving the area after enjoying an evening out when he was chased and repeatedly attacked by a group, who looked to inflict as serious injuries as they possibly could.
"Officers quickly carried out a thorough investigation into this shocking attack and the number of convictions secured are a testament to their hard work.
"Kent Police takes knife crime extremely seriously and is determined to track down and seek the prosecution of anyone who carries a weapon or who engages in violence.
"I would like to praise the victim in supporting our actions and hope the sentences handed down offer him a sense that justice has been done."
