People are being warned to expect delays after a suspected gas leak in Margate closed parts of Marine Terrace.
Traffic on the A28 Marine Terrace, which forms part of the town's seafront, is said to be at a "standstill" while the "urgent repairs" are carried out.
Temporary traffic lights are in place on the road between Marine Drive and All Saints Avenue.
Residents have taken to Facebook to vent their frustrations as congestion builds up in the area.
One commenter said: "My daughter is stuck on the bus late for school.
"I called the school, they said loads were late because of it."
Another said: "Not again! The traffic is hell anyway without that."
KCC Highways tweeted an update at 9.39am as SGN look to remedy the situation.
Spokesman for gas company SGN, Dan Brown, said: "We’re carrying out urgent gas network repairs along A28 Marine Terrace to ensure local properties continue to receive a safe and reliable gas supply.
"For everyone’s safety, we’ve needed to install two-way temporary traffic lights on A28 Marine Terrace, near to its junction with Hall by the Sea Road. These lights will be manually operated during peak hours to help manage traffic flow in the area.
"We’d advise motorists to allow extra time for their journeys. We’d also like to thank affected road users for their patience and understanding while we carry out this essential work."
Westfield Road in Garlinge is also closed in one direction due to "a void in the carriageway between the junctions of Maynard Avenue and Caxton Road".
Crews have been working at the site since just after 11am yesterday (11 Jan).
