A Kent schoolgirl has spoken of her shock after her music video dedicated to NHS staff fighting the coronavirus topped 22,000 views.

Daisy Dorman, 13, from Broadstairs, was inspired to recorded a version of the song Wings by Birdy, after joining her family and thousands across the country in clapping for medics and care workers one Thursday evening.

The teen's stunning cover was first broadcast live on her dad’s Facebook page, where it received such a positive response that she set it to a video montage of people applauding and thanking hospital staff.

The moving video has been seen more than 22,000 times, and Charles Dickens School pupil Daisy is now planning to release her first single.

“When I saw the numbers on the video I was a bit nervous at first," she said. “I didn’t realise it would blow up like this.

"I just thought it would be cool for my family to see it and some of our friends who work for the NHS.

“I really love the song and it fitted with the theme, so I thought I would put it together as a video too.”

Daisy’s musical career began at the age of five when she first went out busking with her dad.

She was also in a rock band while at primary school, and enjoys writing her own songs, accompanying herself on the piano.

“We performed in the rock band and I’ve done a few solo performances in the last year," she said.

“I definitely want to do music as a career. But for now I’m just glad people have seen my thank you to the NHS.”
