A guitar trio specialising in styles ranging from rock to gypsy jazz will be kicking off this year's Jazz at the Tom Thumb series.
Margate-based classical player Tom Abrahams, fusion and rock maestro Jeff Butt and jazz guitarist Tony Hudd will be presenting A Real Treat for Guitar Fans, accompanied by Clive Fletcher on double bass, on Wednesday, January 9, at 8pm.
Known for his gypsy jazz music in the style of Django Reinhardt, Abrahams studied classical guitar at the University of Southampton with maestro Vincent Lindsey-Clark and performs regularly with Trio Manor Manouche.
He is also part of the busy function band, Tundra.
Butt, meanwhile, is a rock and fusion player and founding member of Détente, who cites John McLaughlin and Robben Ford as his influences.
Hudd, a member of TV3 who plays in duos with vibes' player Dave Robinson and guitarist Dave Reay, set up Jazz at the Tom Thumb as a showcase for local musicians.
He is also a member of the Goodwin Sounds Big Band.
Finally, Fletcher, who keeps himself busy playing regularly at the Louis Armstrong and Cullin's Yard in Dover, has a vast range of experience in both classical and jazz music.
He has a masters degree in music as well as a Royal Academy Diploma for double bass, and plays in orchestras, chamber groups and the Zen Bicycle Band.
Among his many influences, he cites Ray Brown and Niels-Henning Orsted Pedersen.
The evening, at Margate's Tom Thumb Theatre in Eastern Esplanade, promises to feature classical pieces as well as some of Tom's solo, fingerstyle arrangements of rock and pop tunes.
Tickets cost £10 from www.wegottickets.com or www.tomthumbtheatre.co.uk.
