Broadstairs: The David Copperfield Harvester handed zero for food hygiene

15:54, 01 September 2017

A Harvester restaurant has been rated a zero by food hygiene inspectors - leaving its bosses "disappointed".

The David Copperfield in Broadstairs was handed the lowest possible score after a visit by inspectors - meaning major improvements were necessary.

The business decided to shut voluntarily after the inspection, carried out on Tuesday, August 1, branded the pub failing for all three areas inspected by the food safety officer.

These are hygienic food handling, cleanliness and condition of facilities and building, and management of food safety.

The poor rating meant the restaurant required a lot of action, including a thorough clean, retraining of kitchen staff and new management put in place.

Being near Westwood Cross, it has often been favoured among shoppers.

A statement on behalf of The David Copperfield said: "We’re extremely disappointed by the reduction in our food hygiene rating.

"We have been working closely with Thanet District Council to ensure all the issues raised are corrected.

"The business closed voluntarily at the time of the inspection and thorough cleaning conducted.

"Retraining has been given to all of the kitchen team and a new manager has now joined the business too.

"We will continue to closely monitor standards at the business via weekly internal inspections and remain in close contact with Thanet District Council."

The restaurant is just one of many Harvesters in the county.

TDC have been contacted for a copy of the full food safety report.
