A fundraising campaign has been launched to help care for a much-loved pony.

Henry has been a popular attraction at the Thanet Disabled Riding Centre in Callis Court Road, Broadstairs, since he arrived in 2006.

Blind sportsman Lewis March raised the funds to buy him by riding a tandem around Kent, but now Henry has developed back problems and can’t be ridden.

Staff are waiting for a horse osteopath to assess the 13-year-old.

When staff at ASDA in Broadstairs heard of Henry’s plight they held a fundraising event and collected £450.

Staff member Mike Hensby started the ball rolling by shaving off the hair and beard he had spent a year growing, and a tombola added to the coffers.

Store manager David Jones presented TDRC staff with the cheque at the store.

Norah Setterfield, who runs the TDRC, said that Henry is doing well at the moment, and enjoying a rest from his working duties while awaiting assessment.
