Huge queues formed outside KFC after the Broadstairs outlet reopened for delivery.
Hungry motorists wanting their fast food chicken fix flocked to the Westwood Road restaurant's drive-thru yesterday evening.
But it was a wasted trip as the outlet is not open to the public and is only operating to cater for deliveries.
The disruption, which left shoppers trying to get to the nearby Asda stuck in the traffic jam, sparked a police call-out as officers tried to ease the congestion.
A car was reported to be blocking the entrance to the approach road for KFC.
But when officers arrived at about 5.30pm, the vehicle had already left the scene.
A force spokesman said: "Inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing."
The Broadstairs KFC is one of four Kent outlets to have reopened this week, along with Ashford, Dover and Gillingham.
Just Eat, Deliveroo and Uber Eats are picking up deliveries from the branches and ferrying the fast food to nearby homes.
