Police are hunting for a knife after two men suffered serious cuts to their faces and heads in a violent attack in Margate town centre.

The pair were taken to hospital for treatment after the incident in Cecil Square at 2.45am on Sunday.

Two men – a 29-year-old from London and a 28-year-old from Margate – were arrested in connection with the assault and both bailed.

Police are now appealing for information from anyone who may have seen other men in the area at the time.

Det Con Dave Wells said: “We are asking the public if anyone can help identify any other males who were in the area at the time.

“It appears around eight males were involved in the incident in Cecil Square and some made off down Union Crescent, Addington Street and into Dane Hill.

“Plenty of people would have been out enjoying themselves on Friday night and Saturday morning and we are hoping there are witnesses we are yet to speak to.

“It appears that at least one of those involved had a knife but this has not yet been found.

“So, we are also asking for local residents of Union Crescent, Addington Street and Dane Hill to check gardens and areas near their property to see if a weapon has been discarded.”

“We are following a number of lines of enquiry but anyone with information about the incident, or if anyone discovers any evidence which may assist us with our investigation, is asked to call me on 01227 868336 quoting report number ZY/27150/14.”
