12:51, 22 March 2017

An infant school has had its rating improved after an inspection by the schools watchdog.

Ofsted inspectors gave Ellington Infant School, High Street, St Lawrence, Ramsgate, a 'good' mark after spending time observing lessons on Tuesday, February 28, and Wednesday, March 1.

A report that was released yesterday says the determined leadership got the school firmly back on track after it was told it requires improvement in 2015.

School leaders and governors were praised for their "strong contribution to the good and improving picture of teaching and outcomes".

The watchdog found pupils enjoyed school and were proud of the work they produced.

Head teacher Nicky Brown said: "I am absolutely thrilled that the report recognises the hard work, determination and impact of our whole school community in ensuring Ellington Infant School provides a high standard of education for our pupils.

"The inspection was challenging and the team left no stone unturned however they agreed that we are resolute in our ambition to ensure our children receive the best, both in terms of teaching and a fun and engaging curriculum."

But the school, which caters for pupils aged between four and seven, still needs to ensure the quality of teaching in early years is consistently high quality and strengthen pupils' results in music and art.

Chairman of the school's governors Jenny Luxmoore said in a letter to parents: "The governors and I know that there is always more work to be done but, as the report observes, the school's drive for continuous improvement is clear.

"We will not stop getting better."
