But tragically, doctors were unable to revive the Westgate United Services Club employee.

The incident happened at about 9am on May 24. Police were called to a report that a man had been injured after falling from a height in St Mildred's Road.

"Officers attended the scene with the South East Coast Ambulance Service and the man was taken to a London hospital," said a Kent Police spokesman.

A spokesman for Thanet District Council says it is leading an investigation into the incident under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.

"As the investigation is ongoing we will not be able to provide any further comment at this stage," she said.

"Our sincere condolences go to the friends and family of the individual concerned."

Messages of condolences have been pouring in to Westgate United Services Club since Mr Town's tragic death.

A spokesman for the club said: "Eric was a much-loved member of our club and a valued employee for many years.

"He will be sadly missed by all. Our hearts are with his family and we ask that you keep them in your thoughts and respect their privacy at this difficult time."
