Jeremy Corbyn is due to visit Ramsgate to speak at a rally next Saturday.
The Labour leader will address an assembly organised by Momentum Thanet called Another Thanet Is Possible, a campaign to transform the Isle’s fortunes in terms of jobs, homes, health and education.
Spokesman Christine Tongue said: “We are surprised and delighted that Jeremy has managed to find time in his schedule to come and speak to us.
“Just after he was first elected, shadow chancellor John McDonnell came to Ramsgate and challenged us to produce an alternative plan for Thanet which he’s promised to support.
“This rally will kick off our attempt to meet his challenge.
“For too long Thanet has relied on businesses coming from outside to regenerate the area.
“Now the time has come for local people, with the help of funding from government, to rebuild our community.”
Ms Tongue says the gathering will be a musical and colourful affair.
She said: “We want to change our community for the better – and we want to have fun doing it.
“We desperately need an end to austerity policies and end to Thanet’s persistent high unemployment and low-wage economy.
“Mr Corbyn has spoken about making sure that communities are not left behind in Britain and Thanet is definitely one of those communities.”
The rally will assemble at 11am by the Obelisk in Harbour Parade.
