Thieves have stolen the lead from the roof of Broadstairs Pierremont Hall.

The Grade II listed building suffered vandalism last year and culprits of graffiti tags were condemned by the town council after the hall was defaced.

Town clerk Danielle Dunn said: “We came back after the Christmas break and there was water running through the ceiling, it was only when they investigated the cause that they realised most of the lead had been taken.

"When the contractors came back the next day the last of the lead had been stolen.

“The Town Council are currently in the process of applying for listed building consent to have cameras installed around the rear of the building, we are just waiting for the planning application to be validated.”

The contractor has made temporary repairs to the roof.

A post on the Broadstairs & St Peter’s town council Facebook page said: “It is with great sadness that I have to inform the residents of Broadstairs that all of the lead has been stolen off the roof of Pierremont Hall in recent weeks.

“If anyone has seen anything suspicious please can you email the Broadstairs & St. Peter’s Town Council office and the information will be passed over to the police.”

The issue has been reported to police.

A spokesman said: “It is reported to have been stolen between 4pm on 8 January and 8am on 9 January.

“Anyone with information should contact Kent Police on 01843 222289 quoting reference ZY/001517/18.”

Thanet District Council has been contacted for a comment.
