Margate RNLI crew 'rescue' inflatable whale off Birchington shoreline
17:00, 11 August 2016
Margate's RNLI crew continued their busy season in dramatic fashion last night.
The lifesaving charity were called to reports of a person in a kayak struggling to reach the shoreline off Birchington.
After rushing to the scene crews quickly identified the object in question, which turned out to be an inflatable whale.
RNLI spokesman Peter Barker said: "The whale was humanely disposed of and the lifeboat returned to station – a false alarm with good intent."
