A lorry driver has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving following a crash which resulted in three people being taken to hospital.

A HGV and Renault Scenic collided on the A299 near Ramsgate - sparking a huge emergency response including deployment of the air ambulance.

A 56-year-old man from Canterbury was arrested in connection with Thursday's 8.15am collision, and he has since been released pending further inquiries.

He was arrested on suspicion of drug driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

All three occupants of the Renault suffered injuries, with one woman being taken to a London hospital.

Another woman and man were taken to the QEQM Hospital.

The accident happened on the Hengist Way carriageway leading away from the Cliffsend roundabout towards Minster.

Police are now appealing for witnesses and those with dashcam footage from between 8am and 8.20am to come forward.
