After another successful year of fundraising, the Luke’s Legacy team has made a donation to YouCan Youth Cancer Support.
It is a project of the Children’s Development Trust, a charity which has been operating for nine years, mostly with children and young people, helping them to improve their lives through well-being, sport, health and the arts.
Luke’s Legacy was set up in memory of Luke Williams, who lost his battle with cancer aged 29 in 2014.
The IT teacher inspired family, friends and strangers with his positive attitude to tackling his illness after he was diagnosed with mouth cancer on his 28th birthday on June 18, 2013.
Liam Morris, of Luke’s Legacy, said : “This charity is very relatable to Luke’s Legacy, given that they support the younger person affected by cancer.
"This was one of the main reasons we chose to support them.
“In June 2017, they opened Hinton House in Westgate-on-Sea, which is available to families affected by cancer for holiday breaks.
"It has been our pleasure that we have been able to fund three of their tailor-made five-day breaks in future months.
“We will also be making a donation to Pilgrims Hospices, as we do every year.”
While a nominated charity has yet to be chosen for this year, the team are moving ahead with fundraising plans.
Back for another year will be the hugely popular Williams Weekend, at Margate's Winter Gardens.
The gala will take place on Saturday, August 11, with the dog walk on Sunday, August 12.
Liam added: “We are looking to put together a variety show feel to the gala this year, with music, dance, magic and much more hopefully, making it more appealing to everyone.
“We are hoping to announce our line-up in the coming weeks.”
The Luke Williams cup will take place on Sunday, June 17, and this year is hosted by the Margate 5-a-side cages.
Luke’s Legacy are the current champions and will be looking to defend their crown.
Any teams interested in entering can contact the team via the website or on social media.
Liam said: “We are looking for local businesses and companies to assist us by kindly sponsoring or supporting our events, so if anyone is interested please get in touch.”
