Man found in reed bed in Pegwell Bay, Sandwich Road in Ramsgate

Video has emerged of coastguard teams rescuing a man who was found in a reed bed.

It's believed to have happened just before 5pm this evening in Pegwell Bay, Ramsgate.

The coastguard confirmed they were assisting police with the search of a missing man.

The video shows teams going into the tall grass and discovering the man within it.

Three police cars and the coastguard helicopter were seen near the Sportsman Pub on Sandwich Road.

Keith Ross, who lives in Ramsgate, witnessed the rescue.

He said: "I spotted the Coastguard helicopter fly over Ramsgate Westcliff.

"It looked like the helicopter had spotted someone in the reed bed.

"Once it landed one of the people onboard got out and led two of the emergency service people on the ground into the reed bed where it looks like they located an elderly man and escorted him out to nearby emergency vehicles parked next to the Sportsman Pub."

Reed beds are found in floodplains, they allow bacteria, fungi and algae to digest sewage and clean the water.

Police have been contacted for a comment.
