A man in his 60s suffered a tirade of abuse before being threatened by a teen with a knife along a seafront.

Between 3.45pm and 4.10pm on Tuesday, July 24, the man was walking along Queens Promenade and the lower prom in Cliftonville when he was targeted by four people, aged between 12 and 15.

A fifth teenager was then seen with a knife, and made threats to hurt him.

The suspect was described as a white boy with a tanned complexion, aged between 16 and 18 years old, with a medium build, and about 5 ft 10 ins tall.

He had short black hair and wore a grey and brown bag on his shoulders.

The victim was able to walk away safely without further issue.

Investigating officer PC Sam Lay said: "The victim had reportedly tried to speak to a boy about broken glass and litter and was then confronted by abusive teenagers shortly after.

"We believe that at the time there were people sitting out in the good weather near to this incident so we ask for any witnesses to come forward and help our enquiries."
