A man with a dog is being sought by police after an attack, which left the victim with facial injuries, in a busy Ramsgate park on Saturday afternoon.

The injured 39-year-old man suffered two black eyes, brusing and cuts to his face following the incident in Ellington Park, off Ellington Road.

It happened at about 2.50pm on Saturday, March 29.

Police are looking for a man described as in his late 30s, with gingery-coloured hair. His dog was white, with beige-coloured patches and a beige tail and was on a linked chain-style lead.

After the incident, the alleged attacker walked away with the dog towards Park Road. About three hours earlier the same dog had been in the park being walked off its lead by a woman with long black curly hair. It is believed may be the ginger-haired man’s partner.

DC Katrina Whitehead from Canterbury Police Station, who is heading the investigation, said: “This attack took place in front of children on Saturday afternoon. It was a sunny day and the park was busy so we are hopeful that local residents will be able to identify the man.

She said: “The man we wish to identify is described as white, between 35 and 40 years-old and around 5ft 10ins tall. He had a stocky build, short gingery-brown short hair and was wearing a white T-shirt, jeans and trainers.”

“He had with him a large Staffordshire-type dog, described as white with brown patches. Anyone who can assist us with identifying this man - or the woman seen in the park with the dog at around midday - can contact me on 01227 868260 quoting crime report number ZY/9954/14.”
