Margate: Carnival led by Sanger's Stage Show hits the town today
07:52, 06 August 2017
Thanet's carnival fever continues today as Margate gears up for their annual celebration today.
Starting from Palm Bay at 2.30pm, the parade is set to wow crowds as it makes its way through Cliftonville, Margate and Westbrook, finishing off at Royal Esplanade.
Showman David Sanger will lead the carnival with horse-drawn Sanger's Stage Show, having made a 200 mile pilgrimage to be there.
His ancestor, 'Lord' George Sanger, ran Hall by the Sea in 1870 and the land behind the hall was turned into a pleasure gardens, which later became Dreamland.
David was at the Dreamland opening in 2015 and cut the ribbon in celebration.
The Sangers - David, his wife Amanda and baby Lord Sanger - returned to Margate in traditional style with horses and a wagon, performing at events along the way.
But their arrival didn't quite go smoothly as they were locked out of where they were supposed to stay and later had a bike stolen.
There will be an after party at Dreamland from 7pm for a 7.30pm start.
Entry is free and Sanger's Stage Show will be there to treat visitors to live music and performances.
