A married teacher has left his job and been cautioned by police after he was caught on camera kissing a pupil.

Media studies head Lee Fountain was questioned by officers following the incident at Chatham and Clarendon Grammar School in Ramsgate this month.

Police received a report alleging inappropriate behaviour between the 44-year-old and a student at the site in Clarendon Gardens on October 13.

Fountain was immediately suspended by the school and a week later was formally cautioned after admitting an offence of sexual activity with a child by an adult in a position of trust.

Bosses at the illustrious selective - which was attended by former Tory leader Sir Edward Heath and Labour MP John Ovenden - have confirmed Fountain no longer teaches at the school.

Head teacher Debra Liddicoat said: “Following an investigation by police, a teacher at Chatham and Clarendon Grammar School was cautioned.

"The investigation has now closed. The member of staff concerned was immediately suspended and has now left the school.

“The safety and wellbeing of all of our students is, at all times, our priority and we take matters of this nature extremely seriously.

“We will now carry out an HR investigation while continuing to engage with the local authority designated officer (LADO) in order to address concerns around this incident.

"The LADO will provide professional oversight for the school as necessary and ensure that all practice and procedures are followed at this time.”

MailOnline reports pupils were first made aware by email that Fountain - who was also the second in charge for English - would not be in classes a fortnight ago.

The website says Ms Liddicoat later wrote to youngsters and parents ahead of the half-term break to say Fountain was no longer employed by the school.

The historic grammar dates back to the 1700s.

Lists of its former pupils include the likes of TV personality Frank Muir, Hawkwind founder Nik Turner, Olympic gold-winning hockey player Sean Kerly and rugby player Matt Corker.
