Martin Kemp has offered to refund a couple’s disabled access tickets after they were unable to attend one of his concerts.
The Spandau Ballet member stepped up after a woman tweeted seller AXS saying she could resell her tickets for the star’s Dreamland Margate concert tonight.
“You will not allow me to resell the accessible tickets and you are not responding to my requests for info,” the woman posted on X, formally Twitter.
“My husband is critically ill in ICU. If we had ‘normal’ tickets, I could have resold them.
“How is this not discrimination?”
But Kemp responded by saying he was “so sorry to hear this” and would personally refund the tickets.
“More than that, I wish your husband well and wish him a speedy recovery,” he said.
“And when he is well, come to another show as my guests.”
His act of kindness has received praise from social media users.
One person said: “What an absolute gentleman you are, Martin.
“I bet many would not bother and it just shows how much you care about your fans.
“That is why you are so well-liked.”
Someone else tweeted: “Just when you thought Martin Kemp could not get any hotter.”
Another person branded AXS a “disgrace”, and wrote: “My family and I will not purchase tickets from you until you change your policies and stop discrimination.”
The woman who was unable to sell her tickets tweeted on Tuesday morning.
And an update yesterday says she has still not had a response from AXS and her husband remains in intensive care.
AXS’s website states accessible seats are reserved for fans with disabilities and their companions.
“At most venues, accessible spaces will allow enough room for guests in wheelchairs and/or provide folding chairs for guests who do not require a wheelchair,” it says.
“If you require additional information, you may want to contact the venue directly.”
Its refund policy on accessible tickets is unclear.
Martin Kemp is hosting a Back To The 80's Xmas Party! concert today at Dreamland Margate.
A Dreamland spokesman said: “As a venue, accessibility is a key priority.
“We deal with enquiries, where refunds are requested on a case-by-case basis.
“Customers should contact us through our customer services email address.
“We understand this customer has now been refunded via AXS.”
KentOnline has contacted AXS for comment.
