A member of an award-nominated band has failed to complete a Thanet cafe's famous breakfast challenge - despite goading previous champion Pete Doherty on Twitter.
Henry Young, lead guitarist of alt-rock group Sports Team, sauntered down to the Dalby Cafe in Cliftonville today to take on the well-known mega breakfast.
The challenge, which includes piles of bacon, eggs, sausages, hash browns and mushrooms, has only ever been bested by six people.
If completed under 20 minutes, the cafe owners let the stuffed winners walk away without paying the £17.50 bill
The last person to beat it was indie icon Peter Doherty in 2018, who put the entire plate away in just 19 and a half minutes.
Fancying a slice of glory for himself, Mr Young wrote on Twitter: "Pete Doherty, if you have any pride, you will come down to the Dolby (sic) and defend your title."
Sat outside the cafe in the exact same seat as the Libertines guitarist in 2018, he began tucking into the mountains of food.
Minutes later Mr Young was already noticeably flagging, seen reaching for a glass of water beneath the table.
Not before long the former sports journalist, whose eyes were clearly bigger than his belly, was easily bested by the gargantuan plate.
With more than half of the food left unfinished, he sat on the pavement slumped against the cafe wall, defeated by his own overconfidence.
He tweeted: "There's a reason only six people have finished it since 2010.
"Shout out to 'Tiny' who for reasons beyond my comprehension took on this sick challenge twice."
Unimpressed fans took to Twitter to chide Mr Young for his weak attempt.
Jasmine wrote, "Such a poor effort," while Will said, "Barely touched it."
Meanwhile the Office of Personal Development chirped up to say, "Rock 'n' roll excess has hit an all time low."
Sports Team have recently been nominated for a Mercury music prize for their debut album, along with the like of Laura Marling, Charli XCX and Stormzy.
The band will be hoping they have better luck with the annual music competition than they have had with Dalby's breakfast challenge.
KentOnline has reached out to Mr Young for a spot of postprandial analysis, if indeed he can bear to stomach it.
