Ramsgate: New fencing at Warre Rec destroyed by vandals overnight

12:20, 24 July 2017

Thanet District Council has today slammed vandals who have ruined fencing at a children's play area.

The council had recently replaced fencing at Warre Rec in Ramsgate, only to find that it had been destroyed overnight.

The council's Communications Team this morning put out a tweet saying "So disappointing that after replacing the fencing at Warre Rec in Ramsgate, it has been vandalised overnight!" labeling it 'mindless' and a 'waste of resources'.

In a Facebook post, the council commented on the situation writing: “Completely mindless and not acceptable behaviour, not to mention the waste of council resources for repairs and time spent completing the work!”

Councillor Suzanne Brimm, Thanet District Council Cabinet Member for Operational Services, said: “It’s so disappointing to see this vandalism anywhere, particularly in the children’s play area of a public park.

“The council has a legal responsibility to enclose play areas and the fence was only installed in May this year.

"Fortunately the Council’s Open Spaces team was able to repair the fence’s damaged sections today and the cost of materials and staff time was approximately £255.

“Unfortunately this type of vandalism takes place in the evenings and we would ask all local residents to be extra vigilant and to please report any incidents to the police as soon as possible.”
