MP calls for action over storm water
16:29, 19 August 2013
South Thanet MP Laura Sandys is demanding that Southern Water urgently overhauls its systems after recent heavy rainfall resulted in screened storm water releases.
She said: “We have the very best beaches in Britain with more Blue Flag awards than any other area in the country, and we must have a water and wastewater system that reflects this quality.
“In light of the recent issues, I have called for an emergency meeting with Southern Water to press for an upgrade of the system in Broadstairs to better cope with instances of heavy rainfall.”
The MP is also urging for better communications so that information is issued “in a timely and efficient, but also proportionate manner.”
She added: “The current system appears to be unfit for purpose and needs to be overhauled as a matter of urgency.”
