I admit it. I was speechless. Read that again. Lewis. Speechless. The 'mouth of the south' lost for words for once.
Let me tell you more.
It all happened at Radio Day in Amsterdam, the annual convention for broadcasters and fans of offshore radio.
I was rather thrown in the deep end when I was asked to host the section on Laser 558 (where I worked for some time) and Laser Hot Hits.
I got around that one without any trouble and was enjoying the afternoon as we drew to the section when a number of awards are made.
I was listening to the names when a familiar one was read out - mine!
I had been honoured for outstanding contribution to offshore radio over the years. I hadn't expected it. I was so chuffed that I could not think of a thing to say - if you have worked with me or listened to me over the years, you will know just how impossible that is.
I loved my time on the high seas working for the offshore stations and I had many good times just doing the job I love - and then they go and give me an award. It is a great honour and I am thrilled.
This Saturday I turn my thoughts to charity and I am taking part in the KM Group-backed abseil over cliffs at Screaming Alley in Ramsgate to raise funds for the Dad's Quest prostate cancer appeal and the walking bus charity appeal.
Come along, support us, join in and have some fun. Once you go over the edge, it is a great feeling, believe me. Find out more from our website at kmfm.co.uk.
