A group of football fans from Broadstairs are planning to take on Gary Barlow by releasing an alternative World Cup song called He’s Got His England Shirt On.
The band Hyperswine were encouraged to release the song after being left unimpressed by the official song, a reworking of the Take That song Greatest Day, after it was unveiled on Sport Relief in March.
Singer and bass player Mark Dougherty said: “We wanted to record a simple, memorable song in the mould of Three Lions or World in Motion.
“I still think people should download Barlow’s song since it’s for a great cause, then they should delete it because it’s rubbish and download ours for free.”
The band have also shot a video for the song, which features footage of England fans showing their support for the team and a prominent role for Dougherty’s father Pat, 57.
The video includes places in Broadstairs as well as European destinations.
Hyperswine are Mark Dougherty (bass and vocals), 28,Johnny Roscoe (guitar), 26 and David Milligan (drums), 26.
Links to watch the video and download the song can be found on the band’s website http://www.hyperswine.com/.
