A trial date has been set for the parents accused of perverting the course of justice after their drug-driving son killed a pregnant woman and her dad.

Barjunsing and Sadhana Bissendary, aged 59 and 56 respectively, of Highlands Glade, Ramsgate, will appear before a jury at Canterbury Crown Court on June 19.

Yoram Hirshfeld, 81, and Noga Sella, 37, died when Nitesh Bissendary’s car mounted a pavement and hit a family-of-five in Ramsgate in August.

Bissendary, 31, and of the same address, was jailed for 16 years in December following a trial at Canterbury Crown Court.

In March this year he admitted perverting the course of justice by arranging for the removal of evidence, including drugs from his bedroom and the scene of the crash, and a SIM card from his phone.

Bissendary’s Alfa Romeo mounted the pavement and travelled 30 metres before colliding with his victims.

The court heard one child received serious head injuries, while another was left severely traumatised.

Sentencing Bissendary in December, Judge Simon James said "No words can describe the pain, loss and torment you have caused.

"You were focused on self-preservation and fled the scene. You went to your parents to try and hide the drugs you had been selling.

"When you initially ran from the scene you knew full well you had run people over."

Bissendary was unanimously found guilty of two counts of causing death by dangerous driving and two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Before trial, he admitted two lesser charges of causing death by careless driving.

He also pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm, failing to provide a sample for analysis and possession with intent to supply cocaine.

Bissendary will be sentenced for his latest conviction, perverting the course of justice, following his parents’ trial.
