Woman hit by train at Margate station has serious injuries

A seriously-injured woman has been taken to hospital after she was hit by a train this afternoon.

Rail services around Margate have been halted after the incident, which happened at 2.30pm.

Southeastern tweeted that passengers have been evacuated from the station and that services would be 'held or delayed until further notice'.

Emergency services including police, fire crews and ambulances are on the scene and the air ambulance is believed to have landed close by.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: " A woman has been taken to hospital after she was struck by a train at Margate station this afternoon.

"Officers from British Transport Police and Kent Police were called to the station shortly before 2.30pm.

"Officers are now working to identify the woman to inform her family. Her injuries are believed to be serious,

"This incident is not being treated as suspicious. There are no other reported injuries relating to this incident."
