A cordon is in place around a Tesco petrol station and a person has been treated by paramedics after breathing in harmful vapour fumes.
Fire crews were alerted to the Broadstairs filling station at 4.30pm amid reports of leak from an underground fuel storage tank.
Crews managed to prevent the vapour from spreading and a 50-metre was set up around the scene - causing gridlock on roads surrounding the supermarket and Westwood Cross.
The cordon has since been reduced due to the risk decreasing, but the petrol station will remain closed off until engineers repair the leaking valve.
One person was treated by paramedics after breathing in fumes from the vapour.
With the restriction reduced, traffic on surrounding roads is now beginning to cope well.
