Plan for model railway museum
00:00, 23 November 2001
A MODEL railway heritage museum could be built in the centre of Thanet. The idea is one of three suggested by toy makers Hornby Hobbies and B and Q who are both based at the Westwood Industrial Estate, Margate.
Other options submitted to Thanet council include the toy manufacturer swapping sites with the neighbouring DIY store. B and Q has applied for permission to build a Warehouse store, to replace their existing branch.
Hornby wish to build more offices and storage space.
All three schemes were given outline permission by councillors. The final decision is expected at the full council meeting on December 13. Frank Martin, chief executive of Hornby Hobbies said: "We have not been given the go-ahead yet, but we are confident that this scheme will be approved as soon as possible.”
