This was the moment terrified mum Susan Mills feared she was going to die at the hands of her jealous husband.
She was caught on camera clutching her drunken husband’s hand as he wielded a knife in the back garden of their home in Margate.
Neighbours watched in horror as the knife was pointed towards her throat as she feared she was going to be stabbed to death.
Bullying Glenn Mills had earlier threatened to kill her after the couple argued over if he was the father of their child.
He had already punched her a month before the knife incident and had been banned from going to their flat in Grosvenor Place.
But the 48-year-old alcoholic returned in July and began drinking again and Mrs Mills complained, telling him: “Glenn you can’t treat me like this.”
Mills responded: “Call the police!”
Prosecutor Dominic Connolly told Canterbury Crown Court how Mrs Mills then walked into their garden and pleaded with a neighbour to make the 999 call.
She then saw Mills come into the garden carrying a kitchen knife and grab her around the neck and shout:
“If I am going down then I am going down for something worthwhile!”
The prosecutor added: “He then put the knife to her throat and then her stomach as she pleaded: ’Please don’t kill...please someone help!’
“She said that she thought she was going to die but managed to get the knife off him and threw it over a fence. She then ran into her daughter’s bedroom and carried her to a neighbour’s house and called the police.”
Mills was originally charged with attempted murder but on the day of his trial offered guilty pleas to charges of assault by beating, affray and making threats to kill.
He has now been jailed for three years and eight months and the attempted murder charge was left on the file.
Mr Connolly said the knife attack was witnessed by neighbours who saw Mrs Mills being held in a headlock and her husband making stabbing movements towards her face and neck.
The neighbour said Mrs Mills “looked absolutely terrified” and then came to her flat for safety but Mills followed her pleading for his wife not to press charges.
Mills was arrested minutes later sitting on the toilet – and still “extremely drunk”.
The court heard how Mills had a previous conviction in October 2012 for battery on his wife when he fractured her fingers, telling her later: “I wish that I had killed you.”
Oliver Saxby QC said: “The backdrop of these offences is no doubt a tendency to drink too much alcohol and an inability to cope with that a propensity towards nasty and violent behaviour.”
He said that since being remanded in prison he has taken steps to tackle his alcohol addiction and has taken anger management courses.
Judge Adele Williams ordered Mills to stay away from his wife for the next three years, telling him:
“These were most unpleasant instances of domestic violence. In June last year, while in drink, you punched your wife repeatedly causing a lump to her head and made threats to her.
“You were told not to return to the flat but you did and consumed considerable quantities of alcohol; and you became violent after arming yourself and attacked your wife leaving her terrified.”
