DS Sheena Barrell said: “Nobody was hurt in the incident but the staff member was understandably very shaken up by the experience.

“We would like to hear from anyone who may have seen four men running or walking through the streets early this morning.

“They would probably have stood out as they have would have been carrying a holdall and were wearing clothing unsuitable for this time of year. By that point they may also have pulled the scarves down from their faces.”

Anyone with information can contact the appeal line on 01843 222289 quoting reference number 23-0333 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
