A man claiming to be an undercover police officer visited a home and told the resident that burglars were planning to target her home, it has been reported.

The suspicious man targeted a house in Ramsgate Road, Margate, last Friday evening and said he wanted to know about the valuable items in her house so he could photograph them.

Fortunately the resident refused his requests and the man left.

The man was described as white, 5ft 5ins tall, with a medium build, black clothing, dark short hair with a tidy appearance.

Officers are now reminding residents to be wary of who they let into their homes, following the report.

Sergeant James Ross from Thanet community safety unit said: "Residents should only let people into their homes if they can confirm their identity – don’t be afraid to turn them away if you have any suspicions about who they are.

"If the person purports to be a police officer and there is any doubt, always contact us on 101 on confirm their identity.

"Consider fitting extra security measures such as spy holes, door chains, door locks and intruder alarms."
