Thanet postman Vince Marsh left with serious injuries after being hit by suspected drink-driver

A shocking photo released by the family of a man hit by a suspected drink-driver shows the horrific extent of his injuries.

Vince Marsh, of Birchington, is a postman and was out delivering when he was struck by a car in Margate on Saturday.

He had to be airlifted to King's College Hospital in London, where he remains in a serious condition.

The 59-year-old suffered a head injury, deep cuts, a fractured eye socket, four broken ribs, bruising and cuts all over, as well as a broken leg and shattered knee cap.

Mr Marsh's son says the picture was released with his father's consent.

"At the moment there is no indication of when he will be leaving hospital," he said.

"He is conscious and able to talk but he still is in a really bad way unfortunately."

Paramedics and the air ambulance were called to College Road in Margate on Saturday morning.

The helicopter landed at Dane Park and Mr Marsh was flown to hospital.

College Road was closed in both directions between between A255 St Peter's Road (Animal Hospital Double Roundabouts) and Hastings Avenue for around four hours.

A 43-year-old woman from Margate was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and has since been released pending further enquiries.
