A Kent man is among six to be charged after police officers were assaulted during a pro-Brexit protest in London.

David Coppin, of Grosvenor Place in Margate, was arrested yesterday when violence erupted at 'yellow vest' march through Whitehall and Piccadilly.

The 58-year-old has been charged with assault and affray.

Campaigners donning high-vis jackets and vests have been regularly taking to the streets in recent weeks.

The 'yellow vest' demonstrations originally started out in France, with thousands of anti-fuel tax protesters marching in Paris.

Now, the movement has been imitated by British anti-austerity and pro-Brexit protestors.

Coppin, along with the other five to be charged following yesterday's incident, will appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, March 19.
