Questions remain over the circumstances of the death of a six-year-old girl found lifeless on a beach after her inquest was adjourned.

Dajahnel Young, from Erith in south east London, was discovered almost an hour after she went missing on July 28 last year in Margate.

Despite desperate attempts to resuscitate her, she was pronounced dead at Margate's QEQM Hospital shortly after.

An inquest opening in October, at Archbishop's Palace in Maidstone, revealed she had been told not to go back into the sea by a woman called Cynthia Robinson after asking to go to the toilet.

Mrs Robinson warned the youngster, who is said to have not been able to swim, at about 2.20pm.

She said Dajahnel was playing on the beach before she noticed her missing shortly after.

A desperate search for her was launched after lifeguard teams were alerted, but shortly after 3pm a bystander saw Dajahnel face-down in the sea, initially mistaking her body for debris.

After realising it was a young child, emergency crews descended on the scene and CPR was attempted on the beach and in an ambulance en-route to hospital.

Today, at Canterbury Coroners' Court, assistant coroner Ian Goldup adjourned the hearing following a lengthy interaction with Leslie Thomas QC, who is representing Dajahnel's family.

Mr Goldup had called on Mr and Mrs Robinson as interested parties in the interim between October's opening and today after reviewing papers.

But the inquest was postponed until a later date so Mr and Mrs Robinson can compile sufficient witness accounts.

The next date for the continuation of the inquest is yet to be set.

A post-mortem examination carried out by Dr Simi George revealed the cause of Dajahnel's death as immersion.
