Ramsgate Carnival ready to roll into town
11:03, 21 July 2011
Ramsgate razzmatazz takes to the streets on Sunday (July 24) with the annual carnival.
Floats, carnival courts and marching bands are just part of the procession that winds its way around the town, taking in the Royal Harbour and both the East and West Cliff areas as well as the High Street and town centre.
The town’s court this year is Miss Ramsgate Bethanie Cairn, with her princesses Cara Onken and Emma Pidduck.
This year’s parade will set off at 4pm, with judging starting at 2pm.
The start point is Government Acre where there will also be a fair. On Sunday from 10am - 6pm there will be stalls on the West Cliff.
As part of the town’s celebrations, The Surin Thai restaurant in Harbour Street is holding a blessing to mark the end of that country’s fasting season.
Owner Damrong Garbutt said there will be a selection of traditional Thai food available for people to taste for free from lunchtime onwards. In the morning a Buddhist monk from the Wimbledon temple will perform a blessing.
