According to one report on social media the water was "pouring everywhere" and the road was "cracking apart".

Southern Water responded to the report to confirm an inspector was due to attend as soon as possible.

A further statement added: “We’re sorry for the inconvenience caused by a burst four-inch water main in Albion Road, Broadstairs, at 8.24am this morning.

“The road has been closed by the police and a Southern Water team is on site assessing the damage. A repair crew is on its way and will begin work fixing the burst as soon as possible.”

By about 3.30pm, the road had been reopened in both directions.
