Scott Woolford emerged victorious and unscathed from his bout with Jay Morris and is now preparing for a Southern Area title shot.
Woolford won the light middleweight contest on points (59-56) but the Ramsgate boxer admits he needs to do more with a date against unbeaten Ryan Toms on the horizon.
He faces Toms for the Southern Area belt at York Hall on Sunday, May 15.
“We had a few clashes of heads but I didn’t get cut and that’s good because I have a Southern Area title shot now and so I wanted to come away with no cuts,” said the 27-year-old.
“I felt good but I didn’t box as well as I had planned but I got a good win against a tough opponent, who was game and came to fight.
“I just wanted to stay away from clashes of heads.
“It was a great night and the crowd were amazing. Hopefully we can have some more shows back in Kent now.”
Woolford had a hectic build up to the fight, after he and wife Natasha recently celebrated the birth of their son George.
“I wasn’t as fit as I would have liked but I had six good rounds, I got through it alright and got my win,” he said.
“Now I have that Southern Area title chance and I can knuckle down for eight weeks, get a bit of sparring and get a bit of sponsorship.
“Everyone has shown great support for me and my company JJ UK decorators have been brilliant. Hopefully I will get a bit of time off to prepare for this next fight.”
