Emergency services, a Guinness world record holder and town organisations have all taken part in a sea safety day.

It was hosted in Ramsgate to promote staying safe in the water and organised by the Thanet Community Safety Unit in partnership with the town team.

Atlantic rower Mathew Bennett took part in the day along with a number of organisations to offer information and demonstrations of some of the work they do to keep the public safe.

Ramsgate PCSO John Litchfield said: "A lot of activities were going on during the event such as training displays given by the Ramsgate Lifeboat and the Search and Rescue helicopter by the main sands.

"Safety advice on how to stay safe at sea and along the coast was given by the RNLI Lifeguards who will be out patrolling Thanet beaches from May 21.

"All in all it was a great day had by all on Sunday, May 8, and I would like to offer a big thank you to all who came and took part.

"The aim of the day was to raise awareness of potential hazards associated with the seaside, and offer safety tips and advice.

"People were also able to meet some of the crews who work hard to keep Thanet’s coasts safe and it was a good opportunity to see the challenges they face and the training they undertake."
