A serial killer who buried two of his victims in the garden of his Margate home is said to have been diagnosed with cancer.

Peter Tobin is serving three life sentences for murder at Saughton Prison in Edinburgh.

The 72-year-old, who has a history of faking illnesses, is said to be "too frail" to leave his cell after being diagnosed with the disease last year.

Tobin is serving life in jail for the murders of 23-year-old Angelika Kluk, Vicky Hamilton and Dinah McNicol.

The bodies of Vicky, 15, and Dinah, 18, were discovered in the garden of his former home in Irvine Drive, Margate, in 2008, where they had been buried since 1991.

Former detective superintendent David Swindle - who led Operation Anagram in the aftermath of Ms Kluk's murder - told the Mail on Sunday three years ago he believed Tobin had killed others.

"There are definitely other people Tobin has killed and only he knows who they are," he said.

"Tobin was a sadistic killer who was determined to take lives and conceal them for his pleasure.

"I live in hope that some day we will get the truth about what Tobin has done."

He was linked with the disappearance of Sussex teenager Louise Kay, who went missing in June 1988, in an episode of ITV's The Investigator: A British Crime Story last April.

The 18-year-old was last seen driving towards Beachy Head after a night out in Eastbourne, East Sussex, close to where Tobin was living at the time.
