A former Territorial Army bandsman has been given his marching orders... because he couldn't keep in step with a court ruling.

Pervert Grant Denyer, 51, had been jailed for groping a teenage boy – and told to stay away from children on his release.

But the former railway worker, pictured right, and one-time probationary police officer befriended a nine-year-old child in defiance of a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO).

And when police raided his home in Hillbrow Avenue, Ramsgate, they discovered he had also downloaded 400 indecent images of children as young as five.

Canterbury Crown Court heard Denyer – who was sacked from his post at Canterbury West station – even took his laptop to the job centre, where he downloaded some of the images.

And Eileen Sproson, prosecuting, revealed as he was trawling the internet for vile sex images he was also taking a special course aimed at preventing him from committing more sex offences.

She added the devious paedophile had secretly used his father's computer to slake his desire for child sex images - even printing some of them.

Now he has been jailed for another 32 months after admitting twice breaching the SOPO and downloading illegal child images, which included the most disgusting at level five.

"it is clear that your desires and need to access illegal images has increased rather than decreased over time..." – judge heather norton

Judge Heather Norton told him although he had not abused the child, she rejected his claim their association had been innocent.

"You have written a letter to me expressing your remorse," she said. "But it is clear that your desires and need to access illegal images has increased rather than decreased over time.

"It is a grave concern to me that you were offending even while you were taking the Thames Valley Sex Offender's Programme."

In 2008, Denyer was sent to prison for 25 months after having admitted sexual assault and 18 further offences of making and possessing indecent photos of children.

At that time he had been living in Pine Tree Avenue, Canterbury, and working at the railway station where he befriended a teenager, sometimes letting the boy through the barrier without a ticket.

Grant Denyer was sentenced at Canterbury Crown Court

Officers arrested Denyer for sexual assault after a complaint from the teenager and when they searched Denyer's home they found several hundred indecent images up to the most serious.

Police also found porn magazines depicting children engaged in sex with adults and other children. More images were found on two mobile phones, on Denyer's computer and a video of a boy aged 10 or 11.

Denyer later resigned from the Territorial Army, where he had been a soldier for 21 years.

The sentencing judge told him: "These offences are disgusting. You have brought great shame on your family and others whose children were involved."

A new SOPO order has now been issued, which will last indefinitely, banning him from having any unauthorised contact with children.
