The list of stars popping up in Thanet is growing as Canadian singer/songwriter Shawn Mendes has featured Botany Bay in his latest music video.
The teen star used the Broadstairs beach as a backdrop in the video for There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back, from the deluxe edition of his second album Illuminate.
With help from Thanet District Council to organise it, the clips were filmed and the video was released on Wednesday, June 21, with Mendes tweeting: “So happy you guys liked the video!!! X”.
Meanwhile, Thanet council’s Communications Team tweeted: “Botany Bay proves why it’s one of the most photographed in UK. Looks stunning in new @ShawnMendes video”.
The 18-year-old singer is currently on a world tour, having just completed a stint in Europe before moving on to North America next week.
Cllr Crow-Brown, cabinet Member for Corporate Governance at Thanet District Council said: “Botany Bay in Broadstairs has proved incredibly popular of late, providing the backdrop for high profile fashion shoots and for music videos by Emeli Sandé and now the talented Canadian singer / songwriter, Shawn Mendes.
“And who can blame them! It is the quintessential British bay, with spectacular views of white cliffs and beautiful chalk stacks.
“None of these shoots would happen without the hard work of our Film Officer, who works hand in glove with production teams to ensure Thanet is showcased in the best light.”
It seems the district is no stranger to celebrity visitors as acting legend Sir Michael Caine was spotted in Margate on Sunday, June 19.
He was seen on the beach in the sunshine as he shot scene for a film based on the Hatton Garden heist.
