A heartbroken family have paid tribute to their "beautiful, funny and unique" baby girl who died just a few weeks shy of her first birthday.

An inquest has been opened after Kaycee Lou Kennedy was found unresponsive at her home in Ramsgate on April 5.

Kaycee's grandmother, Lou, said the 11-month-old had "the biggest smile that would light up any room".

"We as a family will never get over this loss of such a beautiful little girl", she added.

Assistant coroner James Dylan adjourned the inquest until a later date, when the circumstances of the tragedy will be examined.

Baby Kaycee's sister, Jess, who tried to resuscitate her on the night of the tragic incident, set up a fundraising page to help raise money for the family.

She wrote: "On Sunday morning, our hearts were broken forever.

"It was the same as any Sunday morning - but my sister didn't wake up.

"My beautiful, funny, unique little sister had been taken by the angels far too soon at just 11 months old.

"My heart hurts for my family, especially my mum and Kaycee's Daddy TJ, at such a sad, unexpected time. I cannot even know where to begin to support them through this tragedy."

The fundraiser clocked up more than £3,000 in donations, which Lou says was "amazing".

She said: "Mel and TJ, Kaycee's mum and dad, cannot thank the local community enough for the support they have received.

"We'd also like to give a special thank you to Gary and Nina Page, who looked after Kaycee's other sister and brother when it all happened, as well as Aston Walker funeral directors who supported us all through this heartbreaking time.

"Every day we wonder what mischief she would be getting up to with her best friend and brother Ed.

"Fly high, our beautiful Bubba."
