Can you help put the wag back in the tails of some of the lovely dogs being cared for by cash-strapped TAG Pet Rescue?

Thanet Animal Group is desperate to find caring new homes for the hapless hounds in order to ease the waiting list and save more animals in desperate need.

The charity, based near Manston, is also launching an appeal for donations as funding levels have dropped “extremely low”.

TAG is also looking for new doggie foster carers.

Founder and trustee Debbie Channing said their cash crisis followed a year in which the bill doubled for maintaining dogs awaiting new homes and paying for kennel accommodation.

TAG privately boards between 10 and 15 dogs at Rosedale Kennels, Wingham, at a special charity rate. There are usually another 10 TAG dogs in foster homes locally.

Debbie said: “Foster homes are so very special as they give the dogs the human company that they miss in kennels. We would so much love to hear from anyone who would like to be fairy dog mothers - or fathers - with full back up and support from the Tag team. It is one of the most rewarding pleasures in animal rescue when a wonderful home is eventually found for one of your precious charges knowing that your kindness has saved a dear life.

“We at TAG often hear of charities that receive a small fortune in donations. We would be thrilled to receive even a quarter of the amounts quoted.”

She is urging supporters and people sympathetic to TAG’s work, to consider setting up a bank standing order of £1 per month.

“Thats just 25p a week but what a massive difference this would make to our rescue capabilities,” added Debbie.

“Please give this a thought as it would make us so extremely happy to be able to say ‘yes’ much more often.”

She said most dogs arrived unneutered. The bill for spaying, microchipping, worming and vaccinating dogs upon admittance was £150 per dog.

Expenses could escalate when extra veterinary treatment is needed. it could cost up to £2,00 for an operation.

“Over the past two years we have found that we are really struggling to keep up financially,” said Debbie.

“Both foster and kennels are always full to capacity and it breaks our hearts to have to turn away perfectly re-homeable dogs due to lack of funds.”

Planning permission could not be obtained at TAG’s Lydden sanctuary because it sat in a peaceful residential area.

TAG’s dog team is keen to recruit a volunteer with website knowledge, to regularly update the website www.tagpetrescue.org.uk, add information, create and post stories of the dogs etc.
