As the school summer holiday kickstarts, there's plenty going on across the district this weekend.

Ramsgate's carnival weekend is here and, with the centre piece parade heading to the streets tomorrow.

This year’s carnival is set to be a feast for the eyes as an array of characters, marching bands, dancers and floats will have people lining the streets.

Starting at Government Acre, the procession will its way around the town from 4pm tomorrow.

Ramsgate has held an annual carnival since 1926, and this year’s weekend of fun at Government Acre includes a fairground, entertainment, stalls and music.

Today and tomorrow there will be a fun fair at Government Acre for all to enjoy from noon until 6pm.

Attractions include a fairground, candy floss, football, balloon modellers, stalls, music and face painting.

To kick off the busy weekend, there's a dog show from 10am before the funfair begins for four legged friends and owners to enjoy.

Jenny Royce, one of the organisers, said: "We would have loved to have done the sponsored walk as well but there weren't enough volunteers so that will not take place but we wanted to provide something nice for the children."

Best Fest – Newington’s annual community arts festival – is back today, featuring arts, music, crafts, food, stalls, sports and more.

It is all about kindness and bringing people together to share activities, help one another and enjoy each other’s company.

This is the third year running that it has taken place – on the green behind Newington Community Centre in Princess Margaret Avenue, Ramsgate.

This event promotes wellbeing and togetherness for residents in the local area and beyond through interactive arts, with the police, social landlords and Citizens Advice attending to explain about the help available for people.

Visitors are invited to bring picnics and all activities are free.

The fun starts at 1pm and ends at 5pm.

But it doesn't stop there as today is also the annual Minster Show, now in its 131st year.

The show is a combination of a flower and produce show, games for children and more.

There will be rides, stalls, demonstrations and an evening of family entertainment from 1pm this afternoon.

Entry is £3 per person and under 5s go in free.

The week long Ramsgate Festival begins today until Sunday, July 30.

Taking place all over the town, the 2017 festival is inspired by the maritime location.

The programme says: "The theme, Dream Marine, encourages us all to dream, dare to dream big and make our dreams come true."
