An arrest has been made after a man was allegedly raped in a children’s playground.

A 26-year-old man from Margate was taken into custody yesterday (Tuesday) following the reported serious sexual assault between 10pm on Monday and 12.50am the next day.

The incident allegedly took place in Viking Ship Play Park in Ethelbert Crescent, Cliftonville.

The suspect remains in custody whilst enquiries are ongoing.

It comes after police closed the park following reports of the attack. An appeal for information continues.

Anyone who saw anything suspicious during the late evening of Monday (May 27) or has any information regarding the incident should call police on 01843 222289 quoting 46/87072/24.

People who have dashcam footage or private CCTV recorded in the Ethelbert Crescent area are also asked to come forward as they may be able to assist with the investigation.
